High-end karaoke in Gangnam: how it differs from a noraebang, rates and booking

Korean karaoke comes in two kinds. The noraebang on every street is a room you rent with a song machine. High-end karaoke in Gangnam is a private lounge with table service, staff and better drinks. This guide is about the second.

Noraebang or high-end karaoke

A noraebang is the casual version: you rent a room by the hour, pick songs on a remote and order drinks from a short list. Fun with friends, and easy to find anywhere.

High-end karaoke is for a proper night out. You get a private room in a Gangnam lounge, staff who look after the table, a whisky bottle on the table and songs in your own language. It suits groups celebrating, and business hosts.

How a karaoke night works

Many guests start the night at a casino and come to karaoke afterwards. The car takes you to the door, and your host checks you in, sets up the room and stays nearby. When you want to move on, the night can continue at a club table, and the car takes you back to your hotel at the end.

Before you go

  • Passport. Venues check ID at the door.
  • Age. 19 and over, counted by birth year.
  • Dress. Smart casual is fine.
